Me, in a nutshell...

SLEEP PRACTITIONER, MUM OF TWO and frantic 'to-do' List writer

The Beginnings...

Hi, I’m Nicola—a self-confessed sleep enthusiast, organisation lover, and avid ‘to-do’ list writer. Most importantly, I’m a mother to two incredible children—one neuro-spicy, one not so much!

Before diving into the world of sleep support, I had the privilege of working as a Paediatric Nurse at the world-renowned Royal Brompton Hospital in London. I cared for infants, children, and their families following a diagnosis of cardiac disease—a deeply fulfilling and meaningful career. After becoming a mother, I decided to trade the bright lights, scrubs, and fast-paced hospital life for something quieter and closer to home.

Well… so I thought!

Lived Experience

Like so many new mums, I found myself sleep-deprived and constantly second-guessing my instincts. I soon realized I wasn’t alone—there were so many others navigating the same overwhelming advice and uncertainty. The more I learned about biologically normal infant sleep, the more I understood that we could work with our babies’ needs rather than against them. I started trusting my instincts, questioning the mainstream narrative, and seeking evidence-based solutions.

At first, my focus was simply on my own sleep—how much I was getting (or not getting!), why it mattered so much, and how I could improve it.

Helping families thrive

And so, here I am! A mum who has been in the trenches of sleepless nights, now an Infant & Child Sleep Practitioner—offering guidance, support, and a listening ear. With my background in paediatric nursing, I bring a wealth of knowledge, empathy, and up-to-date, science-backed advice to help families find a sleep approach that truly works for them.

Motherhood hasn’t always been straightforward or what I expected, and I’m sure the teenage years will bring their own surprises! But through the challenges, I’ve learned that ‘perfect’ sleep isn’t a fixed destination—just like happiness, it’s a journey with ups and downs.

I’ve chosen connection over convention, trusting my instincts amidst the noise of mainstream parenting advice. Most importantly, I’ve embraced parenting in a way that feels right for me.

Kulala, named after the Swahili word for sleep, offers a gentle, guilt-free approach to infant sleep. In a world obsessed with early sleep independence, many parents feel pressured to use quick-fix sleep training methods that may not align with their instincts or their baby’s needs.

Rooted in the wisdom of African parenting, Kulala embraces a nurturing, flexible approach—respecting your family’s unique rhythm without shame, punishment, or one-size-fits-all solutions. Sleep is essential, but so is connection.

If you're looking to bring calm to your nights while honoring your parenting style, I’m here to guide you—no magic, just plenty of warmth, understanding, and a sprinkle of fairy dust.
